STEP-BY-STEP SERVED CONNECTION GUIDE - Step 3 Introduction >Tools and Supplies >Step 1 - Preparing >Step 2 - Inserting >Step 3 - Serving Before Serving • Make sure you are using the correct solid braid with which to serve. Serving • Secure the splice you just made in the topshot clamps and have the transition point (where the fluorocarbon exits the hollow braid) in the middle. Make sure the line is secured under tension as effective serving cannot be done if the line is loose in the clamps. ![]() • About 2½ inches from the fluoro/hollow transition point wrap the solid braid one time around the hollow braid going toward the side of the clamp. Make sure to leave a tag end of about 8 inches which will come into play later. ![]() ![]() • Then, in the opposite direction, wrap towards the fluoro/hollow transition point 8 times, wrapping over the first wrap and the loose tag end line. Once finished the bowstring server will be able to hang by itself. ![]() • Move the 8 inch tag end toward the side so you are not wrapping on top of it anymore. Take up the loose line on the server so that it is touching the braid. • Adjust the tension on your bowstring server. Tension is correct when the coils self align next to each other and the bowstring server is touching the hollow braid at all times ![]() • Now the main part of the serve begins. To get the spinning started, rotate the main line in a circular motion with one hand while flipping the bowstring server around the main line with the other. Eventually the bowstring server will start to spin freely without handling. Move this freed hand onto the main line to aid in the spinning. As the server spins, it feeds off the solid braid that self aligns. There is a lot of direction here, but the process is actually quite simple and improvement happens very quickly. ![]() • Keep the bowstring server spinning all the way down to the fluoro/hollow transition point. The key to a good serve is to keep the bowstring server spinning at a constant speed the whole way through. Try not to slow down unless you find yourself needing to re-adjust the tension on your server. Wraps should only be on the hollow braid, not on the fluorocarbon alone. If you wrap onto the fluorocarbon just backpedal on the server so the serve ends exactly at the fluoro/hollow transition point. ![]() • Now letting the bowstring server hang freely at the end of the serve, take the 8 inch tag end from the beginning and wrap it around a wooden dowel. Tighten using the dowel and cut. Do not pull too hard, just until those first 8 wraps turn clear. ![]() • Trim the tag end with a razor blade as close to the serve as possible. Be careful not to knick the coils. ![]() • Now going back to the bowstring server, turn it around and spin over the first wrap that was just made ending at where the serve initially started. Use the same method that you did on the first wrap. • Wrap all the way back to the beginning (covering the entire serve) and then lay down a loop puller. Wrap over the top of the loop puller 8 times. ![]() • Pinch the 8 coils you just made and then pull about 8 to 10 inches of line off the bowstring server and cut it. Make sure the 8 coils are secured or they will unravel. • Take the tag end of the loose solid braid and put it through the loop puller and proceed to pull the loop puller under the 8 coils. Make sure that only about 1 inch of line goes through the loop puller or there will be resistance when pulling under the coils. ![]() • Tighten these 8 coils with a wood dowel just as you did before. • Follow the directions for the spectra adhesive of your choice, but only apply it to the ends of the serve. Do not cover the whole serve in adhesive. ![]() Introduction >Tools and Supplies >Step 1 - Preparing >Step 2 - Inserting >Step 3 - Serving |
